Literature Text

Do butterflies cry?
Do they try
To be more
Than we are looking for?
Do they aspire
To be the flower?

Do birds mourn?
Do they continue to listen
For the song that is missing?
Do they see the bodies
Broken and Bloodied
And wonder why they never worried?

Do we see despair
In the butterfly's flitting?
Are we listening
To the songs that are missing?

Can we hear the gaps
In the harmony?
The loss in the symphony?
Are we so unaware
Of the things that were once there?

Because I can think of
Nothing more devastating
Than the creatures that are hoping,
That are wishing,
For more than they are seeing.

We see beauty and perfection
Within the shimmering colours
And find wonder and inspiration
In their mere mention.

But what if we are not the exception?
What if it's a misconception
That we are sentient
While they are ignorant?

If we can feel
Love and insecurity
Why can't the butterfly feel ugly
Or the Hummingbird lonely?
An very old poem that I only recently rediscovered. Tidied it up a little though still not sure if I'm happy with it.

Let me know what you think.
